what is new in digital Camera

First test shots posted for Samsung NX100!
We've just posted our first set of lab test shots for the Samsung NX100 SLD digital camera, straight from the lab. Following in the footsteps of the closely related NX5 and NX10 models, the Samsung NX100 aims to better fulfill the promised reduction in body size of an SLD camera. The change comes mostly from a reduction in height, and from the removal of the sculpted handgrip of the previous NX-series models. The NX100 still doesn't challenge the compactness of Sony's NEX-5, but it's certainly among the smaller SLD camera bodies yet announced. Like its existing NX-series siblings, the Samsung NX100 is based around an APS-C sized, 14.6 megapixel CMOS image sensor. It also retains a 3.0-inch, VGA-resolution AMOLED like that of the NX10. Following the lead of Panasonic's Lumix GF1, as well as both the Olympus E-P2 and E-PL1, the NX100 also adopts a hotshoe-mounted electronic viewfinder that mates into an accessory port just below the shoe. Read our Samsung NX100 Preview for more details, and visit the Samsung NX100 Samples page for the images we've shot so far, including links to select RAW files. We'll be adding more image files over the next couple of days, so check back soon!

Lens Review: Sony E 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS!
Sony introduced its NEX series of mirrorless digital cameras in May 2010, with three lenses: a 18-200mm superzoom, a 16mm pancake, and the subject of today's lens review, the Sony E 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS. Providing an effective field of view of 27-83mm, the lens features optical image stabilization and a sleek brushed aluminium finish. We've finished putting the lens through its paces in our lab: click here to read our full review of the Sony E 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.

First Shots posted for Pentax K-r!
We've just posted a complete set of test shots from the Pentax K-r digital SLR, straight from the lab! The K-r includes a couple of firsts for Pentax's digital SLR lineup, as well as a number of important features that set it above the K-x, alongside which it will continue to be sold for the time being. Perhaps the most noteworthy upgrade in the Pentax K-r is its viewfinder focus point display, a feature whose conspicuous absence we questioned in our K-x review. The Pentax K-r also incorporates a larger, higher-resolution LCD display like that previously seen in the K-7. Among the new features for the K-r, it sets a new high for burst shooting speed in a Pentax digital SLR, at six frames per second. Maximum expanded ISO sensitivity from a newly developed sensor is also increased to ISO 25,600 equivalent. The Pentax K-r also offers dual battery support in-body -- either a provided lithium ion rechargeable pack, or four AA cells with an adapter. See our Pentax K-r Preview for more details, and visit the Pentax K-r Samples page for all the test shots we've taken, which includes links to select RAW files.

Hands-on Preview posted for Olympus XZ-1!
With the market's increased focus on low light photography, it seems quite proper that Olympus has jumped into the fray, introducing the XZ-1, a high-end pocket camera with a fast f/1.8 lens and HD video recording. The Olympus XZ-1 bears an impressive i.Zuiko Digital 6.0 - 24.0mm, with maximum apertures of a bright f/1.8 to f/2.5 across the zoom range. The Olympus XZ-1's lens has 35mm-equivalent focal lengths from a useful 28mm wide angle to a moderate 112mm telephoto. Effective resolution of the Olympus XZ-1 is ten megapixels, from a 1/1.63"-type CCD image sensor. Output from the sensor is handled by a TruePic V image processor. To fight blur from camera shake, there's a sensor shift-type image stabilization system. On its rear panel, the XZ-1 offers up a 3.0-inch LCD display with a fairly high resolution of 614,000 dots, roughly equating to 205,000 pixels. Other features include a contrast detection AF system with an AF assist lamp, a variety of art filters, an accessory port compatible with PEN-series accessories, and a 720p high-def movie mode. Hands-on Preview posted for Olympus PEN E-PL2!
Olympus Imaging America Inc. has today announced its new PEN E-PL2 interchangeable lens digital camera, along with a number of related accessories, and we've just posted our hands-on Olympus PL2 preview. The Olympus PL2 is the fifth camera in the company's popular PEN series of single-lens direct view cameras and the Olympus PEN PL2 differs from the previous PL1 model in a number of important ways. The body styling has been adjusted, providing a more comfortably sized grip, and features a recessed power button, direct movie button, and the familiar rear-panel control wheel seen on the P1 and P2 models. The PL2 also now ships with a different kit lens, which has the same focal range of 14-42mm (28-84mm equivalent), but with quieter MSC ("Movie and Still Compatible") focus motor, more compact dimensions, a more solid retraction mechanism, and a bayonet for mounting accessory lenses. The rear-panel LCD display on the Olympus PL2 has been upgraded to a larger 3.0-inch type with double the resolution of that on the PL1, at some 460,000 dots. The fastest shutter speed on the Olympus PL2 has been boosted from 1/2,000 to 1/4,000 second, making it easier to freeze fast subject motion, and the maximum ISO sensitivity doubled from ISO 3,200 to ISO 6,400 equivalent. That's not all, so see our Olympus PEN E-PL2 Hands-on Preview for more details!
